Hi Dan,

You won’t loose anything. Update just replaces files but content will not be removed.
By updating you can loose only changes you made in code, for example if you made changes in template files. But if you didn’t you don’t have to worry.

After updating theme you will be able to update plugins from Appearance->Install plugins.

You won’t be able to update from backend after this update but if you need this functionality you can try Envato WordPress Toolkit that allows you this, you will just need to obtain API key.
